Radial Shockwave is another exciting therapy we are happy to bring you at Elite Spine Centres! It is a relatively new, non-invasive solution for a range of conditions from chronic pain, tight muscles, calcific tendonitis, plantar fasciitis, tennis elbow, painful knees, trigger points and many others.

How does it work? During treatment with RSWT, a high-intensity acoustic pressure wave interacts with the tissues of the body. This leads to a cascade of beneficial effects such as neovascularisation (growth of new blood vessels), pain relief, reversal of chronic inflammation, and break down of calcium build-up (bone spurs). This helps to create a healing environment often where long-term injuries have caused tissues to lose their ability to recover on their own.

Treatments are generally pain-less, although some areas may cause an initial pricking or light stinging sensation. Many patients will feel some immediate relief on areas treated, and most should see significant improvement within 4-12 treatments depending on the severity of the problem and how long tissue damage has been present. Polychromatic Light Therapy (PLT) works on a similar principal as LLLT by stimulating the body’s natural regeneration process on a cellular level, although the type and intensity of light being emitted, and the typical use applications vary somewhat from those used in the Cold Laser or LLLT spectrum.

At Elite Spine Centres we are using PLT as a means of helping to improve blood circulation, reduce pain and stimulate healing of small fibre nerve tissue which has become damaged. Specifically using this technology along with a home exercise program and in conjunction with other in-office therapy we can safely treat and give hope to patients who may have run out of options from their medical providers.

One of the most common treatments we provide with PLT is for something known as peripheral neuropathy. This is a condition where the tiny nerves (most often in the feet and lower legs, but also sometimes in the hands) start to die off for one or more reasons. Commonly caused as a secondary condition to longstanding diabetes, long-term use of cholesterol or high blood pressure medications, poor blood circulation, and/or spinal stenosis (narrowing). Another very popular instrument with our patients, the NDP is a high-powered, high-frequency massage instrument which allows our trained staff to relax muscle tissues and prepare the patient for their treatment.

Typically used with patients after treatment on our Non-Surgical Spinal Decompression (NSSD) machines, the NDP both helps to reduce any small spasms in the surrounding muscles and to help drive hydration and nutrients into the discs once they have been decompressed.
