Holistic Chiropractic Care for Headache Disorders
Can’t stand suffering through another throbbing headache or migraine attack?
You are not alone.
Statistics show that the lifetime prevalence rate of Singaporeans experiencing significant headaches is more than 82%!
Some people experience headaches frequently, others do occasionally.
Your primary care doctor may treat your tension headaches or migraine attacks with medication.
However, this is often a temporary fix which does not address the possible underlying problems of the spine/body mechanics or nerves.
In fact, this headache treatment may lead to a specific time of headache disorder: medication overuse headache.
Imagine you thought you had cured your original headache issues with medications prescribed, only to find a new daily persistent headache!
But what is there to do—headaches and migraines are just a normal part of life, right?
Many patients visiting us for other concerns such as neck stiffness may often note that they have ‘normal headaches’ almost as an afterthought.
What they mean is they experience mild yet persistent headaches so often that they think the pain is normal.
But the normal amount of pain at any time should be zero.
So what can you do about your chronic migraine or tension headache?
Say goodbye to headaches and migraines with the Functional Correction Method—no surgery or medication required!
Chiropractic care can help with that pesky throbbing pain—it’s been proven to effectively alleviate many types of headache and migraine symptoms.

As Seen In
Our Signature Functional Correction Method (FCM)
Often, pain is the way your body shows you that something isn’t operating as it should be.
Let us bring you relief with our Elite Spine chiropractic treatment strategy.
Our signature Functional Correction Method (FCM) combines the best in modern chiropractic strategies, soft tissue therapy, and rehabilitative exercises to address your concerns thoroughly.
Step 1 – Initial Consultation
At Elite Spine Centres, we firmly believe in creating a low-stress, patient-centric environment.
Our Doctor of Chiropractic will review your symptoms and health history in detail to better understand what may be causing your concerns.
We will work with you to address your symptoms and concerns, ensuring that you understand your condition before proceeding with treatment.
There will be no hard sales or excessively long treatment packages—we want to work with you, not against you!
Step 2 – Spine and Body Examination
A thorough physical examination will be performed to assess your spine and other relevant areas for proper bio-mechanics, possible injuries or safety concerns.
Orthopaedic or neurological tests may be performed if needed at this time. This will allow us to rule out possible underlying causes and obtain a proper diagnosis.
Most of our patients can receive treatment on their first session once any potential safety concerns have been ruled out!
Step 3 – Doctor’s Report and Recommendations
The doctor will assess your response to the first session and review any studies which may have been requested (X-ray, MRI, etc.).
Based on the findings, he will discuss a customised plan of action to help you reach your treatment goals.
Compared to the typical approach of symptom management via medication, our Doctor of Chiropractic can deal with the problem right at the root.
With this approach, your headache or migraine is unlikely to come back, with the added bonus of avoiding medication overuse headache!
Step 4 – Holistic Chiropractic Treatment
Treatment usually involves chiropractic manipulations to realign your body back to its natural state and improve blood flow to soft tissues.
If needed, advanced therapeutic technologies may be used to complement your healing.
Your personalised, comprehensive treatment plan will also involve lifestyle advice to prevent your condition from recurring.
This means our patients are able to achieve more complete recovery in a shorter amount of time than at other centres!

What is the difference between headaches and migraines?
Headaches and migraines can show similar symptoms and, thus, are often confused with one another or even used as synonyms. However, they differ in several ways.
Headache
A headache usually occurs on the front, back, or both sides of the head, such as in common tension headaches.
Associated symptoms of a headache include pain in the neck, back, shoulders, and even on areas of the face such as the eyes and ears.
Migraine
Migraines are a form of headache disorder that is a bit rarer. They usually occur on just one side of the head.
Having a migraine can cause:
- severe pain
- dizziness
- dizziness
- sensitivity to light, smell and sound
- disability
What is causing your headaches?
Headache disorders have many different triggers or causes that vary among individuals. This can include environmental stimuli, foods and behaviours.
Here are some things that could trigger/cause your headache disorder:
- Bright lights
- Blood sugar changes
- Stress
- Insomnia
- Loud noises
- Excessive exercise
- Lifestyle changes
- Chronic dehydration
And that’s not all. Most primary headache patients’ symptoms are linked to muscle tension and poor joint mechanics in the neck.
Many people these days lead a somewhat sedentary lifestyle, meaning you probably spend many hours per week in a fixed position (i.e. sitting in front of a computer or on your handphone).
This makes you more prone to joint irritation and muscle tension in the neck and upper back, leading to nerve irritation and headaches.
Headaches may also, at times, be triggered along with vertigo. If so, it’s best to consult your chiropractor to determine the root cause and to see if any other conditions may need to be ruled out.
On the other hand, a migraine attack may be triggered by:
- Hormonal changes
- Diet
- Medications use
- Physical injuries
A neck or head injury can induce migraines as well. This is because any physical trauma to these areas can cause inflammation of the nerves and joints, causing migraines to flare up over time.
What are the main types of headache disorders?
Primary Headache
Primary headaches are headaches that are not caused by an underlying condition. In other words, the headache is the condition itself rather than a symptom of something else altogether.
A primary headache is also usually related to cervicogenic headaches. These are headaches where the pressure on the muscles, nerves and blood vessels in the neck and head is the cause of the pain. Thus, when we treat that pressure, we treat your headache directly.
If your symptoms persist, it may be a secondary headache instead.
Secondary Headache Disorders
Secondary headaches are headaches that are caused by medical conditions or diseases. This means that having a headache is a symptom of something else.
For the pain to go away, you must treat the root of the problem instead of just your headache symptoms. For example, a secondary headache can be triggered by the flu, sinusitis, tumours, glaucoma, trigeminal neuralgia, blood clots or medication.
Tension-Type Headache
A tension headache is generally caused by inflammation of the nerves at the base of the head and muscle tightness. Therefore, they are commonly linked to psychological triggers such as stress and anxiety.
The symptoms of tension-type headaches are:
- Dull, aching head pain
- A sensation of tightness or pressure across your forehead or on the back and sides of your head
- Tenderness on your scalp, neck, and shoulder muscles
Migraine
A migraine is triggered by hormonal changes, certain foods, weather, and sometimes medication use, among other causes.
Migraine attacks can last from hours to days, and the pain might be severe enough to prevent you from going about your normal activities. A warning sign known as an aura might appear before or with the migraine for some people. An aura can be:
- visual disturbances, such as flashes of light
- blind patches
- tingling on one side of the face, arm, or leg
- trouble speaking
