Deep Tissue Massage & Sports Massage in Singapore

Looking for a full-body sports massage in Singapore?

Most patients typically seek sports massage treatments to address tight muscles and sports injuries. However, a quality sports massage, or physiotherapeutic massage, is part of a larger group of treatments that fall under soft tissue therapy.

At Elite Spine Centres, the importance of holistic care is highlighted in our signature Functional Correction Method (FCM). Your individual needs will be evaluated to determine the best modalities to ace your health goals as part of your treatment plan. This usually includes but is not limited to soft tissue therapy, chiropractic adjustments, rehabilitative exercise and lifestyle advice.

That said, you don’t need to experience chronic pain or muscle tension to get a deep tissue massage! On its own, a sports massage is beneficial for releasing muscle tension, enhancing athletic performance, improving joint mobility, better blood circulation and more.

Our sports massage and deep tissue massage therapies are administered by Ms Hazel Beng and Ms Rahil Rosli (both Singaporean). They are both skilful and personable therapists trained in a variety of massage, rehab and stretch techniques, ensuring a pleasant and professional massage experience for our patients at Elite Spine.

Are you an Athlete or Fitness Enthusiast Sidelined by Pain?

Whether you are a professional athlete or someone who works out to improve their fitness, everyone is prone to accidents and/or injuries while doing physical activity. The onset of pain can be enough to prevent you from exercising or competing as much or entirely, which can be upsetting and aggravating.

Sports injuries don’t just impact you in the short term, some problems fail to improve with rest, and they become long term problems. This can lead to reluctance to exercise as you may be concerned about aggravating old injuries or causing further damage. If you are a professional athlete, these sorts of injuries can be devastating, potentially leading to the end of your sporting career.

However, you don’t need to accept pain as an unchangeable reality. While you may feel your issue is permanent or unchangeable, many sports injuries respond well to a holistic and comprehensive approach. With appropriate treatment, many athletes experience significant pain reduction and improved function.

One effective treatment for pain caused by accidents and injuries is a sports massage. This is a deep tissue massage that targets muscles and connective tissues to break up adhesions and ‘knots’ from sports injuries or stress damage. Many enjoy sports massage therapy for its ability to improve circulation, relieve stress, improve flexibility and muscular imbalances.

This therapy is ideal for professional athletes seeking treatment after competition or anyone needing to restore their function and range of motion.

If you are looking for a sports therapist in Singapore, Elite Spine Centres can help. We go above and beyond the standard sports massage by offering holistic and tailored treatment.

We are experts within the conservative care spectrum. Our methods integrate modern chiropractic practice, rehabilitation therapy, and lifestyle coaching. We are a trusted provider of unique and comprehensive therapy options and educational outreach.

Ultimately, the Elite Spine system is engineered to relieve people’s pain and symptoms safely without surgery or drugs. We also offer all our clients practical strategies to help them achieve optimal health.

What is a Sports Massage?

A sports massage or deep tissue massage is generally a longer format therapy for soft tissue problems. Trained sports massage therapists will utilise a range of manual techniques to break down fibrous adhesions in soft and connective tissues to alleviate pain and restore range of motion.

Each sports massage session targets a specific group of muscles and pressure points, usually aiming to increase blood flow and address muscle stiffness. This is in contrast to spa-style massages, which are less specific and geared towards general body relaxation.

Why a Standard Sports Massage in Singapore Might Not Be Enough?

A sports massage is a fantastic treatment which releases muscle tension, improves joint mobility, improves athletic performance and generates better blood circulation. This method employs manual techniques to break down fibrous adhesions in soft and connective tissues to reduce pain and increase range of motion.

If you have ongoing pain from a condition or injury, you may be tempted to opt for a standard sports massage in Singapore. However, if you have a chronic or complex injury, you may actually require specialised or ongoing treatment.

This is because a standard sports massage focuses on muscles but complex injuries, such as torn ligaments or severe tendinopathy, requires the attention of a specialist sports therapist who can address structural issues.

By working with a specialist sports therapist in Singapore, you can manage ongoing pain or chronic conditions through an integrated approach.

At Elite Spine Centres, our specialist sports therapists will fully assess your needs and determine what treatments may suit your unique health needs. This will help restore the normal function of your neuroskeletal system and remove issues impacting your body’s posture and mechanics.

Lymphatic Drainage

Manual Lymphatic Drainage, commonly abbreviated as MLD, is an advanced therapeutic method that has been proven to stimulate the lymphatic system. It is a light, rhythmic massage that uses a range of specialised movements and gentle pumping techniques. In fact, the pressure applied on the skin should be as gentle as the weight of a teaspoon of water!

These mild stretching movements stimulate the lymphatic vessels, increasing the flow of excess fluid and metabolic waste. Hence its signature benefit: reduced water retention and swelling from injuries/surgery and lymphedema.

Myofascial Release & Trigger Point Therapy

In line with FCM principles, manual pressure techniques like myofascial release (MFR) and trigger point therapy (TPT) may be provided alongside chiropractic care. If applied with precision, these specific soft tissue methods can mobilise restricted tissues and joints within a short period.

Generally, massage therapists apply these deep tissue massage techniques to target specific areas using the thumb, fingers, or elbows. Most patients describe the pain as a “good sore” when they feel the tension released within the muscle fibres and soft tissues.

Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilisation

Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilisation (IASTM) involves using specialised tools that allow our doctors to scan, find and treat scar tissue, fibrous adhesions and “knots” in muscles, tendons, ligaments, and fascia.

This form of deep tissue massage is often mistaken with traditional Chinese medicine’s Gua Sha, whereby tools are used to scrape the skin repeatedly to improve blood circulation.

The difference between the two lies in the technique. Gua Sha focuses on scaping or agitating the skin. Meanwhile, IATSM often uses cream or oil to reduce friction on the skin, instead directing the force primarily into deeper tissues. As a result, it also does not leave the types of bruises often associated with Gua Sha.

Cupping Therapy

Cupping therapy is beginning to gain popularity amongst modern physiotherapists and chiropractors, though slightly different from our counterparts in traditional Chinese medicine.

This is a unique form of soft tissue therapy since it utilises a suction (decompressive) force on the body, compared to usual sports massage or myofascial release, which involves compressing the tissues. Cupping improves blood circulation, reduces myofascial restrictions, and helps the body clear metabolic waste from cells and tissues.

Radial Shockwave Therapy

Radial Shockwave Therapy (RSWT) is another advanced therapeutic technique used at Elite Spine Centres. This machine delivers a controlled and rapid percussion to the tissues, penetrating certain areas more effectively than manual methods. For more information on RSWT, read here.
