A sports chiropractor assesses the joints, muscles and tendons your sport puts under load, finds what is producing the pain and treats it. At Elite Spine Centres a doctor examines you first, then uses shockwave, cold laser, chiropractic and rehabilitative exercise as your findings call for. The first visit is 60 minutes.

What does a sports chiropractor do?

A sports chiropractor assesses how your joints, muscles and tendons are working under the load of your sport, finds what is producing the pain, and treats that. The aim is to get you moving without pain and to reduce the chance that the same injury returns. It is not about quick fixes before a match.

Many sports injuries come from overuse, a sudden twist, or a stiff joint that forces another joint to do too much. The injured spot is often not the whole story, which is why we examine the areas above and below it too.

Which sports injuries do we treat?

ProblemWhat we use

Who will treat me?

  • Dr. Marcus Bernini, Doctor of Osteopathy (London School of Osteopathy, 2007) and a former professional rugby player. He mainly treats sports injuries and complex pain that has not responded to single-region treatment.
  • Dr. Sharel Chong, Master of Chiropractic (University of South Wales, UK), certified in shockwave and in pitchside first aid. She came to chiropractic through her own sports injuries.
  • Dr. Michael Bryant, Doctor of Chiropractic (USA), founder of the clinic and developer of the Functional Correction Method.

Our sports massage and stretch therapy sessions run 45 to 60 minutes and support the doctors' work. They are a complement to treatment, not a replacement for it.

What happens at the first visit?

The first visit is 60 minutes with a doctor. We ask about your sport, your training and when the pain started. We examine the injured area and the joints and muscles around it, and we explain what we find in plain words. Most patients are treated in that same visit, once any safety concerns are ruled out. It costs $88 when you pay online and $128 at the clinic. See our price page for what is included.

When do we send you elsewhere first?

Some injuries need a hospital or a specialist before anything else. We refer you for a suspected fracture, a dislocation, a head injury with neurological symptoms, a suspected serious ligament rupture or a suspected concussion. For a concussion that means a neurologist or sports medicine doctor. Chiropractic care may come later in your rehabilitation, if at all.

What do we not promise?

We do not promise a return-to-play date or a faster time. Recovery depends on the injury, your age, your fitness and how closely you follow your rehabilitation. We work alongside any sports doctor, physiotherapist or coach you already see. We also do not publish a success rate for any treatment.

  • We refer you on for fractures, dislocations, head injuries and suspected serious ligament tears.
Frequently asked

Common questions.

Our patient-care team is happy to walk through anything else over the phone or WhatsApp.

Yes, for the joint, muscle and tendon problems that sport causes, such as lower back strain, ankle and knee problems, and overuse injuries in the foot, elbow and shoulder. At Elite Spine Centres a doctor examines you first and then chooses the treatment. If your injury needs a hospital or a surgeon, we say so and refer you.

You spend 60 minutes with a doctor. We take your history, including the sport and your training load, examine the injured area and the structures around it, and explain what we find. Most patients are treated in the same visit once any safety concerns are ruled out. The first visit costs $88 online or $128 at the clinic.

It depends on the injury and how long you have had it. On our own pages, shockwave for most tendon problems is usually four to eight sessions over four to six weeks, and cold laser is usually six to twelve sessions. We reassess as we go and we do not promise a return-to-play date.

Yes. Radial shockwave therapy is one of the main treatments we use for plantar fasciitis, heel spurs, jumper's knee and other tendon problems, alongside soft-tissue work and rehabilitative exercise.

Go to hospital or an emergency department first for a suspected fracture, a dislocation, a head injury with confusion, drowsiness or other neurological symptoms, or a suspected serious ligament rupture. Chiropractic care can come later in recovery if it is appropriate.

No. We aim to reduce pain and restore movement. We do not promise faster times or a set return-to-play date, because recovery depends on the injury, your age, your fitness and how closely you follow your rehabilitation.
